Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn and Catherine Deneuve are but a few of the leading ladies who created and epitomised the movie world of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. In „…And God Created Woman“, we present a wide cross-section of the posters and press photographs that helped define them and their generation. Works of art in themselves, most are rarely seen and all were originally produced for promotional purposes rather than sale.
All exhibits are taken from the collection of gallery owner Martin Last. He began collecting as a boy in the early 1970s. In recent years his focus has been on the work of directors, poster artists and studio photographers whose work is widely recognised as being of artistic importance. Having always sought out the unusual, his collection is notable for the diversity of genres, periods, countries and poster formats represented. This is the first time that a significant part of the collection has been available for sale since our „Movie Crazy I and II“ exhibitions in 2004.
Due to unprecedented interest this exhibition will now run to 30 September 2010.
